Summary You can use Migration Assistant to transfer your files and important settings from an older Mac to a new one. Migration Assistant utility is only available in Mac OS X 10.5 and newer.

I just migrated to a new computer. Uploaded Office:mac 2011. Word and Excel are working. Outlook is telling me: This identity cannot be opened with this version of Outlook. Install Office and update [important] Open Entourage or Outlook and it will create a Microsoft User Data folder and a new blank Identity. Requirements To use Migration Assistant, both Macs must be either Firewire / Thunderbolt capable or be connected to the same Ethernet or wireless network. To transfer files via Migration Assistant • Before performing migration, Software Update on your older Mac to ensure you get the latest updates for Mac OS X. • If you're using a portable Mac, make sure the power cable is connected. • On your new Mac, open Migration Assistant, located in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder or search for Migration Assistant in Spotlight Search. • Read the Introduction screen, then click Continue.

• If a dialog appears, type your admin password, then click OK. • In the Migration Method screen, select From another Mac, then click Continue. • If you are transferring via FireWire, connect a FireWire cable between your new Mac and your earlier Mac, then click Continue (skip step 8).

• If you are transferring via a wired (Ethernet) or wireless network: • Make sure both computers are on the same local network, or connect them directly to each other with an Ethernet cable if both have an Ethernet port. • On the computer you are transferring files to, click 'Use Network', then click Continue, then click 'From another Mac'.
